Getting my sewjo back

Today I have been getting back into the sewing. Yeah yeah I know, about time!

I whipped up a cute little pinny but now can't decide how to finish it off. I had thought about adding a ruffle out of the same fabric but then I though of lace. Now I can't decide if I like the lace or not.

Oh I hate myself when I get indecisive LOL

(sorry for the dodgy pic)

This is the dress. What do you think? To lace or not to lace......

Sunday market score!

For the past 5 days I have been feeling well.... shit! I woke Wednesday morning with tonsillitis then Thursday morning with FIVE cold sores and Friday morning with conjunctivitis :(
So after been cooped up in the house feeling miserable for days husbeast decided it would do me good to get out and about for a little bit. And he was right (don't tell him I said that ! ), a trip to the local Sunday market was just what I needed.

The market that is held at our local showgrounds ever Sunday is a mix of used, old and new items. Its kind of like a massive op shop and its heaven on earth!

First stop was the shed with the chicken man, I needed more chicken feed and I wanted to see if I could get Ruby a new friend ( Nelly ended up being a Neil, so he went to live with the lady down the road last week) but he only had tiny little chickens, which by the way were so hard to resist, lucky hubby was with me!

Then we walked around the other sheds looking at all the stalls for a good few hours. I scored some gorgeous s/hand baby clothes for Miss L and hubby brought himself a new ultra warm jacket. But my score of the day was just before we left. I spyed some mosaic tea light lamps sitting at someone stall. I wondered over thinking they would probably have some ridiculous price on them but to my surprise they were only EIGHT DOLLARS!!
I have wanted some of these lamps for ages!!

I can't wait till it gets dark so I can sit them on the table and light them up. They are going to look gorgeous!!

Oh shoot, I just remembered I told husbeast he had to buy me some flowers on the way out and I totally forgot!! Oh well always next weekend ;)

Master R turns 3!!

Happy 3rd Birthday to my beautiful little man! You make our days so much brighter with your cheeky ways and your sense of humor! We love you more then words can say xoxoxo

Starting the day with a balloon surprise!

I can't believe Master R is THREE!! Where has the time gone. I still remember the moment the doctors handed him up to me like it was yesterday. My first words were "Wow check out those thighs" HEHE I expected him to be a little chubby but at 10lb 4oz he was my biggest bubba and oh so chubby and cute!! (still is)

I mean really, check out those thighs!

Just a few hours old in his first cloth nappy

So what cake does a three year old boy ask for....HOOT of course!
After searching high and low all over Bendigo for a rice paper Hoot image (because of course I didn't think to look online for one before it was to late) and being unsuccessful I went back to negotiate with Master R. I asked if he would be like a Thomas cake, an elmo cake, a bob the builder cake, a Chuggintion cake.... NOPE NOPE NOPE and NOPE.  It HAD to be a Hoot cake....Bugger!

I had no choice but to make a cake in the shape of Hoot and  I had the biggest hoot fan there was judging me, oh the pressure!!

After many hours of stressful baking and icing this was the result

Unfortunately I didn't leave enough room for his toes and the butter cream icing went yellow instead of white.
He doesn't like when people sing happy birthday (he usually cover his ears lol)

Master R couldn't of been happier. He couldn't stop climbing up on the chair to admire him!! Which mind you gave me a heart attack each time he did because all I could see was him knocking it down and it smashing all over the floor!

His present was a hit too :) socceroo in the making I think!

Finished Tattoo

Long time no post!! Whoops that is slack of me!
Every time I go to sit down and write a blog post lately something distracts me and then it never gets done.
Not that anything to interesting has been happening in my life, really just the same old same old.

One thing that did happen that is  worth blogging about, I got my tattoo finished! I love the final result. It looks beautiful!

(The colours are slightly brighter than it shows in this pic)

I'm now 600 grams off my next 10 kilo (so total of 20 kilos) goal!

Oh and in other weight loss news, I'm doing Round 2 of 2010 Michelle Bridges 12WTB program. It kicks off on Monday. I'm a little nervous about the menu plan, I can be pretty fussy when it comes to food LOL The exercise side of it I have no worries about, over the past 16 weeks I have become a bit of a workout junkie. I love getting into the gym and smashing away my frustrations of the day.
Speaking of which, when I started my diet lifestyle change back in January I couldn't jog to save my life. Today I jogged 2 km on the treadmill!! Beating my previous best effort of 1.25 km :) So proud of myself!!

Time to make a birthday cake and resist eating the off cuts!!!

Finally got it!

My 10 kilo weight loss reward that is.....

Blah excuse my horrible skin, its not liking the oiliness of the constant application of Bepanthen cream.

Not quite finished, still have the shading in the stem of the feathers to do and the round part of the top of the feathers is to be coloured in.

This wasn't what I had planned on getting. I actually had a swirly outline peacock design all ready to go but cam across a peacock design that I fell in love with and got permission of the designer to use so decided I didn't want two peacock tattoos.
When I saw this design I fell in love. Its perfect! It represents me finally starting to see myself as the beautiful person I am :)

I'm booked in on the 15th go get it finished, hopefully by then I will of reached my 20 kilo goal (I'm sitting on 17 kilos lost) so I can book in for my next tattoo reward :) :)

The gardening bug

I have caught the gardening bug.

My eldest daughter wanted to start up a small flower garden for herself and I had been thinking about fixing up the tear drop garden in our front yard and starting a few veggie gardens.
Tamika mentioned to my mum that she wanted to start a garden (my mum is the one with the green thumb in our family) so she said she would come out Wednesday for the day and help out.
She arrived mid morning armed with a pitch fork, shovel and some plants.
We all spent the morning digging up the grass and weeds where Tamika wanted her garden, then husbeast (he had the day of work) came and constructed a box out of red gum timbers for us. After a quick lunch/cuppa break we got stuck back into it filling it with soil and plants.

After almost a full days work we had one cute little garden.

It was one of the best days the kids and I have had in a long time!

And now I want more!!!

I have moved the chicken coop to where I plan on putting the next one, they can do all the hard work of digging up the grass for me this time!

Speaking of  chicken coops, how cute are these coops I found online the other day!!

 I want it!!
Made by http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/

 Made by http://www.oakdene-coops.co.uk

Pity they are both in the UK :(

Tomorrows job is to start digging over the tear drop and digging out all the old dead plants!
Lucky its a public holiday and I have husbeast home to help...shhh don't tell him, he doesn't know what I have planned for him yet *insert evil grin*

I have discovered how therapeutic gardening is and I'm loving it!

Weight loss update

I love going to gym every night. It's funny how quickly it has just become routine. It really helps wash sweat away the stress and tensions of the day.
But I tell you what, I'm really struggling to resisting all those yummy looking Eater eggs filling the supermarkets!

Monday was weigh in day and I was surprised by what the scales were telling me (yes I gave into one or more small chocolate bunnies) that I got off and on them about 4 times. I had lost 2.6 kilos bringing me to a total of 13 kilos in 8 weeks!!

New Do

While husbeast was away in Cairns a few weeks ago for the National Tourism Awards I decided to change my hair style.

 Before
(hair was half way down my back)

 After
(just below my shoulders and with a fringe!)
and playing with BeFunky iPhone app

I thought husbeast was going to freak (he always told me never to cut my hair cos he loved it long) but he LOVED my fringe (reminded him of when we first met in our teen years lol) so much he didn't notice the difference in the length

Hmm now I have  fringe maybe I could get my eyebrow re pierced and he wont notice......

No rights for home birthers

It has hit like a huge punch in the guts just how much home birthers are discriminated against.

I free birthed my daughter in my home on the 7/7/2011 and I contacted our local hospital with whom I had pre natal care with on the 10/8/2011 to ask for a letter about my care so I could register her home birth.
See I need a letter from my own doctor and the hospital stating they saw me during my pregnancy so I can prove I was pregnant and did in fact give birth.

Week after week I got "we will get back to you", " I will see what I can do and ring you back", "I will get my manager onto it and she will send it out to you"
6 months down the track I'm still waiting. Yesterday I decided not to ring them back (yet again) but to go on up to women's health at the Bendigo Hospital and talk to them in person.
I spoke to a woman named Sam who said she couldn't do anything right there and then as she needs to get my records up from the records department but would get me what I wanted by the end of the week.

Well today a lady called Tracy who was there yesterday and kept butting in saying "we can't give you a letter saying you birthed here because you didn't" *sigh* I polity replied to her that isn't what I wanted and once again explained exactly what I wanted. I kept getting an anti home birthing vibe from her.
So today she rings me to say they can't and wont be supplying me with what I need.
I asked her why and she babbled something about them not seeing me within a few days of or after me giving birth so can't provided documentation saying I did.
I started to get a little angry (OK a lot) and explained that they did indeed see me only a few days before I gave birth and even rang the very next day because I had missed an appointment. Which a pone finding out I gave birth offered to send out a Dom midwife to see me, which I accepted.
Tracy then went on to say they wont give me the letter I'm after unless I get a legal document to state what I need. (she also refused to let me speak to her manager)
I don't have to money to go to a lawyer to get a letter for them. I have NEVER heard of this kind of thing happening.
I'm appalled by the way I have been treated because I chose to home birth.

I,m not sure if it was the threats I was going to take this issue to the head of the hospital or the threats I was going to take this public any way I can (which I still will, I'm going to start drafting a letter to my local paper tonight) but Tracy rang me back withing 5 minutes saying her "manager" wasn't aware that I had received care at the hospital so close to my birth she (the manage)will ring me back within the next half hour (there goes my plans for before school pick up time) to discuss what I need.

Hmm more stone walling perhaps?

So after a lot of tears of anger and frustration, I'm now in that stunned WTF do I do now state.

Gotta love the public hospital system hey,NOT! HA its because of them I chose to with a home birth..but story is for another post when I'm feeling strong enough to talk about it.

Weighing in

This is why I prefer to walk outside rather than inside on a treadmill....

View from one side of the lake on our last lap

Which means I get my first reward....which I will post about another day :)

Adding to the flock

Nope not me, this isn't a pregnancy announcement lol

Meet

Ruby ( is a Red Rhode Island)

and Nelly (is a Light Sussex)

Ruby was the first chick to come live with us. I had gone to the bird shop to pick up some food for Chook Chook and Rosie. As always I went through to the back to check out what chickens they had.
It was love at first site when I saw her (or him, but hopefully not). I'm not sure if it was the fact she was the only one of her kind so she stood out or the fact that she was the smallest and the others (mainly the big Australorp chicks) where stepping all over her a pushing her out of the way of the water and food feeders.
My heart melted and I couldn't leave her there to be bullied. I told the lady I would take her.
On the drive home I thought about where I would keep her and decided I would turn our big wood box (which happens to be a huge box husbeast got a delivery in once and has no wood in it) into a home for her.
I pulled up home, took her out of the box she was in and walked inside announcing to everyone "meet Ruby"
The kids came rushing over ooo and arrr over her, as I knew they would.
Husbeast came over and said "who and what is a Ruby"
I announced proudly that Ruby is my new baby chicken.
Lucky for me Husbeast  is a big softy and as soon as he saw her  he was smitten.

I put her back in her box temporarily while I went and decobwebed the wood box, filled it with wood shavings and set up her water and food feeders.  DH found me a temporary lid (an old flyscreen)
After watching her walk around chirping for a few hours I decided she needed a friend. I ran it past Husbeast first this time, to which he said "I don't care. Get as many chickens as you like". Hmmm you may just regret saying that one day *insert evil laugh*
Defiantly to big for just one baby chicken
The next day while it was just me and the two youngest ones home I ventured back to the bird shop to pick up a friend for Ruby. This time I let Master R pick one out.
So I'm now the proud mamma to two teen chooks and two baby chooks :)
Chook and Rosie haven't taken much interest in the younger ones yet. They jumped up on the edge of the box when they walked past the first time and heard Ruby and Nelly chirping away, They just stood there looking in for a few minutes and then flew back down and wondered off.
At the moment Ruby and Nelly sleep inside due to the cold and  the temporary roof on their box. Husbeast and I will be building a proper lid this week.
Perfect for raising more little chickens LOL

Best friends already ♥♥♥

That's going to hurt tomorrow.

I think the friend I go walking with is trying to kill me!

I few weeks ago I mentioned heading to one of our local parks (Rosalind Park) because it has a few hills and steps, which would be good to add to our exercise routine

Well tonight she took that suggestion one step further!

Behind the park there is an oval which like most ovals and has a grand stand. Its not a big grand stand but its elevated by 20 steep steps (which by the way there are 4 lots of them). We walked around the oval then run up and down each lot (remember there is 4 of them) of steps, then back around the oval and then again up and down each lot of steps.
So in total we walked 9 laps of the oval and jogged 8 lots of  4x 20steps
So that is a total of around 9 kilometers and 640 steps

BUT it didn't end there, no the torture wasn't over yet. At the top of the park, where we had parked the car there is a poppet head. She  made us walk to the top and back down again. All 124 steps!! OUCH!

Rosalind Park Poppet Head Lookout

Yes the view from the top was worth is but,

OUCH! Its going to hurt tomorrow!!

The black hole

I just can't seem to fully climb out of this hole I'm in. Just when I think I can see the light I feel the blackness taking over me again.
I have so much I want to get done but so little motivation. Its taking my everything to just keep on with this "heathy way of life" (or in real speak DIET) let a lone the power to do anything else.
I haven't touched the sewing machine in months :( That depresses me just thinking about it, how my business is slipping away each day. I go to bed thinking to myself tomorrow I will get started, tomorrow I will drag myself out of this, tomorrow I will get stuck into the sewing (something I love) but as soon as I open my eyes all I feel is the blackness.
Someone once said to me "just do it"
It sounded so simple. I deactivated my facebook account, and put my forum account on ban thinking maybe if I didn't have the distraction of the net I would be able to claw my way out easier but I'm not sure it has helped. It has just made me feel so alone.
I have had a couple of my friends text me in that time to say hi and ask how I am, which I cherish but seriously out of 109 facebook friends only 2 have text me and 1 I catch up with everyday (thank god for her).
If it wasn't for my friend Caz I'm sure I would be down in my hole twice as deep.
She has been a great distraction from the darkness.  Speaking of, its time for our nightly walk, I wonder how many laps of the lake she will us do tonight. The other day she tried to kill me with NINE!

So how does one "just do it"? How do you climb out of the darkness and back in to the world of the living?

Maybe tomorrow there will more light in my life. I can only hope.

Oompa Loompa, do-ba-dee-doo

I never realised looking like an Oompa Loompa was fashionable, Or maybe its just that I'm just getting old.

Friday evening while out for my walk with a friend ( we walk every night, yay go me) there was a couple walking a dog. She was tall, lean and pretty but had the skin colour of an Oompa Loompa. *insert WFT face here*
She hasn't been the only one I have seen either. It seems ever second young girl/woman I see out and about has gone and gotten this look.
Since when has being orange been beautiful?

Rally I just don't get it. It boggles my mind. What is wrong with having a normal natural coloured body??
I can  even understand ( just a little) the want for a light fake tan but one that makes you look like you daddy is a Oompa Loompa, seriously!
Hmm as I said maybe I'm just getting old LOL

And while I'm here venting I may as well get the doggie do situation that is on my nerves out.
There are signs that says ALL DOGS MUST BE ON A LEAD all around the lake. What part of that do dog owners (not all, only some) not understand! There are rules like that for a reason people!
Also if you your dog takes a dump while your out at a public place clean it up! I'm SO sick of walking along and having to dodge doggie do do. GAH its disgusting!

Hmm can anyone day Chocolate withdrawals LOL

MMM chocolate, oh how I miss the!

Weight in day tomorrow, fingers crossed that 9 kilometer walk I did today helped and the scales are nice to me :)

Hope every one enjoys what is left of their weekend
xx

For those not old enough to know what an Oompa Loompa is here you go,

Well hello there

Long time no post.  Firstly due to a bit of a downer and then due to kicking myself up the ass and getting myself busy thus getting myself out of that downer.

You may of noticed I didn't finish the January photo challenge. Well I half did and half didn't. I DID take the photos I just haven't uploaded them yet. I will get around to doing it very soon though.

So what has been taking up all my time? I started to move my ass and lose weight!
A few weeks ago I really looked in the mirror, like stood naked after my shower and had a good hard look. What I saw made me sad, angry and disgusted. I had become what I had always said I wouldn't... FAT
I was the heaviest I have ever been and it wasn't a good feeling.
At first it got me really depressed, hence my downer. But after a week or so with the help of friend that also wants to lose weight I got myself into the head space I needed.
I started the 1 million kilo challenge on the 29th of January so have been making up healthy meals and getting myself off the couch and moving. I have been walking every night with a girlfriend for the past week, still hurts afterwards but we are getting there.
I'm not a huge fan of the meal plan, I find the breakfast way to much so I have just been replacing it with either fruit and yogurt or making a smoothie. lunch I have just been having a salad wrap (rye ones) and dinner has been a few of their recipes or just meat and veg.
I'm really just using it to record my weight loss and keep myself motivated.

I'm happy to report I have lost a total of 3.3 kilos this week  *happy dance*

I still have a long way to go (about 40kilos)  but I CAN DO THIS!

Something to remember

Unexpected visitor

Early Tuesday evening I was about to start doing the bed time routine with the kids when my husbeast came inside and said he had something to show me but I had to come straight away!!
I could hear the excitement in the voice as he said this so I thought it must of been something pretty good.
I stopped what I was doing, threw on my thongs and followed him outside.

As we got to the end of the verandah he told me there was a peacock in the paddock next to our house. I thought it was just another one of his jokes. He is always joking around try to trick me so of course I didn't believe him.
But I followed him across the front yard anyway, expecting to see one of the many native pigeon birds (yes that is my technical name for them)  that live in this area.
Then there she was, walking around pecking at the ground. I couldn't believe my eyes, a real live peahen  right in my front yard! I was like a kid on Christmas eve.

Its not like I have never seen a peacock in real life, I have on many occasions. I was just that it was AT MY HOUSE!

I called out for Miss T to quickly go and get the camera so I could get a few pics of her. She was gorgeous (not as pretty as a male but still gorgeous in my eyes) and moved so gracefully.
I took a few snapshots from a distance, then crept my way towards her. I got a few more pics of her and then she flew up into the top of the tallest gumtree at the end of our driveway.

I rang the local animal rescue people but they said there wasn't anything they could do because she wasn't injured and being up the top of a gumtree they couldn't reach her anyway.

I have kept an eye out for her but haven't seen her since. I just hope she made her way back to were she came from (be it someones backyard aviary or the local botanical gardens, as they have peacocks there that wonder around) or at least is safe and well where ever she ended up.

Not the best photos unfortunately. I was so excited I didn't check what setting the camera was on. Turns out it was on video mode :( Bugger!

January photo a day challenge - Day 19

Day 19 - Sweet

Sweet is the sisterly love my two girls show each other. They are never more than a foot from each others side.

They even share a dust bath together

Although this is more of a dirt bath LOL
It had just finished raining and they ran straight out (they had been sitting on the front verandah watching the rain) to a non grassy patch, scratched it up and proceeded to then roll/fluff around in it. It was adorable to watch!

January photo a day challenge - Days 17 & 18

Day 17 - Water

Nothing beats a cold glass of water on a hot summers day!

Day 18 - Something you bought

Today I bought my first ever mango (I know I can't believe I have never bought one till now either). It was my 8 year old daughter who asked me to purchase it. We were getting the usual, bananas, apples, pears and watermelon when she picked it up and announced she loves mango and asked if can we buy one.

Now I have this craving for a Chicken and mango salad I had many many years ago. Must try and find a recipe!

Day 15 - Happiness

Happiness is coming home from an awesome night out with the girls (we do a month dinner date) to find a present and a beautiful note sitting on the table from my eldest daughter

 (peacock vase)

She bought it while out shopping with her friends on Thursday ♥♥♥

January Photo a day challenge - Day 14

Day 14 - Something you're reading

One of my favourite things to do is cuddling up on the couch with a cup of tea and a good book.

Being school holidays  I have 5 children home from school, which means I don't get much quiet time for reading. Needless to say I don't have a book on the go at the moment. Makes me feel a little naked actually.
I  have The Black Dagger Brotherhood sitting on my self waiting for me though.

The only reading I have been doing the past few weeks is the bed time story (with a few nights off for Dad to do the reading). Tonight's book was A particular cow by Mem Fox, picked out by Master L

January Photo a day Challenge - Day 11

Day 11 - Where you sleep

Usually with Miss L (who is now 6 months old! Where did the time go??) Hogging most of the bed. Its amazing how much room one tiny baby can take up lol
She starts off in her own bed and some nights she will even stay there, but others she just wants to much boobie so its easier just to let her lay next to me and self serve :)

Yes that is ugly green carpet you can see. Our room is the only one with it left and it drives me crazy that husbeast hasn't gotten around the replacing it yet. Mainly because he keeps changing his mind about the flooring in the house *sigh*

January photo a day challenge - Day 9 & 10

Day 9 - Daily Routine
Routine, whats that?
Since the start of school holidays I have forgotten what a routine is. The house doesn't seem to stay clean for more then 5 minutes, leaving me no time to do anything else. The washing is piling up, the dishes get done when I have a spare 5 minutes from nagging children and well the sewing, I haven't even had the energy to even look at my sewing machine in the past 2 weeks!
But there is one thing I still find the time for (if I didn't, I wouldn't survive past breakfast time)

My morning cup of tea
(or a pot depending on how much sleep Miss L gives me the night before)

Day 10 - Childhood

As soon as I saw this on the list I knew what I was going to take a photo of!
Its amazing how after 30+ years something can make such a huge comeback....yes I'm taking about the smurfs!
My childhood T Shirt.
(I think I was around 3 when this fit me)

I'm taking a small break from the Internet (facebook and forums) but I will continue to blog and do my daily photo challenge. I have just found myself falling into a slump (probably the lack of routine) so I'm taking time out to get on top of things and catch up on some sewing.
I have had a few new patterns sitting here I have been meaning to try out, so starting tomorrow I'm back into it!
Keep your eyes out for some sneak peaks :)

January photo a day challenge - Day 7 & 8

Yes I have been a slack blogger again, so I'm doing two days at once, and will do two again tomorrow, I seem to have lost a day somewhere!

Day 7 - Favourite
I found this one hard, I really didn't know what to blog I have my favourite animals and colours but nothing really else. I don't have a favourite piece of jewelery, no favourite item of clothing or kitchen utensil or a favourite mug. I was starting to think I must be the most boring person on earth.
Than as I was walking out the door Saturday afternoon I grabbed my handbag and it hit me. I have not changed my bag since the day I received this one. For that is huge! I usually change my handbag over at least 3 times a month, I own a gazillion of them,OK maybe not that many but close

I have a favourite handbag!!

And it has one of my favourite animals on it :)

I received this gorgeous bag from another WAHM. Anna from Howieandcharlie We did a swap, I made her some clothing for her girls and she made me this handbag. Its the best handbag I have ever owned and I can't see myself using anything else! Even when I don't have children and need to carry around spare nappies and clothes LOL

Day 8 - My Sky

Today's sky has been so clear and blue with only the slightest whisper of clouds. The perfect sky for star gazing and watching the full moon tonight!
